About the role

Penrith City Council is looking to employ committed, enthusiastic and passionate individuals to undertake a 2‑year traineeship as a Trainee Asset Officer. Your positive attitude, willingness to learn and strong customer focus will help you secure this exciting opportunity.

As a Trainee Asset Officer you will complete a Certificate IV in Government while gaining valuable information and industry experience in a supportive environment. The traineeship will commence in early 2026.

This role supports the Parks and Open Space Strategic Asset Management Team by assisting in the management of open‑space infrastructure assets through tasks such as on‑site inspections, data entry and administrative support. It also supports accurate asset information and contributes to informed planning and decision‑making across a range of strategic and operational functions within the Council.

The Strategic Asset Management Department is dedicated to ensuring the long‑term sustainability, performance and value of Council’s infrastructure assets. We lead the asset management and renewal planning of a diverse portfolio including roads, bridges, footpaths, drainage, buildings, public trees and open‑space infrastructure within active and passive open spaces such as parks, sporting fields and playgrounds. By working collaboratively across the organisation we contribute to the planning and design of public spaces and infrastructure to ensure well‑managed, functional and resilient community assets.

Essential criteria
  • Eligibility and willingness to undertake a Certificate IV in Government
  • Interest in a career in Local Government Asset Management or Public Infrastructure
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with confidence in liaising with a range of stakeholders
  • Current Class C Driver licence
Commencing salary

$827.40 – $947.70 per week plus 12% Superannuation.
