Therapy Assistant Practitioner – University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust

Closing date: 28 January 2026

Scope: Expansion of the Integrated Front Door Therapy Team on the Emergency Floor, providing rapid and comprehensive assessment within an integrated physiotherapy and occupational therapy model.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in providing occupational therapy and physiotherapy interventions for patients assessed by the team.
  • Assess non-complex patients, progress them and plan discharges appropriately, liaising with key personnel and outside agencies.
  • Work under the direction and guidance of an occupational therapist or physiotherapist, with the ability to act independently but with immediate access to a therapist on site or by telephone/bleep.
  • Use a minimal amount of clinical judgement and freedom to act within agreed protocols while supporting the multidisciplinary team.
  • Participate in a 7‑day rota including weekends and bank holidays within an 8am‑8pm service.
  • Maintain accurate, comprehensive and up‑to‑date patient‑related documentation in line with Trust and departmental policy and procedures (SOAP notes).
  • Support therapists across the site in carrying out treatment programmes to develop independence with activities of daily living.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Experience working as an occupational therapy or physiotherapy assistant worker or a related role within NHS health or social care.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proven competency training in fitting and assessing daily living equipment, basic mobility, progression of mobility, stair assessment and exercise programme delivery.
  • Physically able to carry out therapeutic handling of patients and good time management including punctuality and ability to prioritise caseload.
  • Recognises own limitations and seeks advice and guidance from more experienced colleagues as appropriate.
Additional Information

Salary: £27,485 to £30,162 per annum, pro rata.
