Job description

We are looking for a motivated Therapy Assistant to join our Admission Avoidance Team, which is a multidisciplinary team consisting of Nurses, Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists.

You will assist in the assessment, acute rehabilitation and discharge of patients under the care of the Admission Avoidance Team's Therapists and Nurses, facilitating admission avoidance and discharge of medically optimised patients from the Emergency Department and/or Acute Medical wards.

You must be an organised and motived individual who can work flexibly as part of a team and have previous experience of working within a relevant clinical setting.

You will need to have excellent communication skills, be reliable and have the ability to work under pressure within an acute hospital setting.

The Team provides a seven-day service, and you will be expected to participate in the Rota.

Main duties of the job

To undertake clinical support work to aid the assessment, acute rehabilitation and discharge of patients under the care of the Admission Avoidance Team's Therapists/Nurses facilitating discharge of medically optimised patients from the Emergency Department or Acute Medical wards.

Assist in delivering care and treatments for patients with simple non-complex conditions within agreed parameters set by the AAT Therapists/Nurses, monitoring progress and liaising with qualified staff members regarding the patients' response to treatment and discharge planning.

Complete a range of administrative tasks including stocktaking and IT based work. AAT is a seven day service and post holder will be expected to participate in the seven day working rota.

Experience
  • Experience of working in a team environment

  • Experience of taking exercise classes
  • An awareness of conditions you are likely to encounter in a hospital or therapy treatment setting, for example, mobility and social problems.
  • Awareness of the roles of other MDT staff.
Skills
  • Physically fit to perform manual handling techniques and exercise therapy and demonstrate the ability to learn more advanced techniques.
  • Able to demonstrate the ability to organise self and others to perform routine departmental tasks in a variety of settings.
  • Able to communicate effectively in written and verbal form to staff and patients, who may have communication barriers, E.g. stroke or language barriers.
  • Able to apply problem- solving skills to situations, which may include analysis of clinical, technical or organisational issues
