Position: Test Engineer – Electrical Products

Location: Loughborough, Leicestershire

Employment Type: Permanent, Full Time Position

Do you think you have what it takes to be our next Test Engineer? Our test engineers are at the forefront of operations at our testing laboratories and play a key role in certifying the safety of products for global consumers, ensuring they remain fit for purpose and conform to industry standards.

Our Labs:

BSI has over 50 years of testing excellence with two UKAS accredited laboratories in the UK, located in Hemel Hempstead & Loughborough. The Hemel Hempstead facility is our centre of excellence, testing a range of products including PPE, Latex, IoT Security, Financial, Automotive, Fire detection, Doors & Windows, and Construction Products. The Loughborough testing facility, situated within Loughborough University, offers bespoke testing capabilities across Electrical & Electronics, Mechanical, Energy, and Gas Appliances, with plans to expand.

What is it like to be an Electrical Test Engineer at BSI?

A typical day involves creating test set-ups/test rigs to simulate normal use and conditions of products. Precision is crucial, so initial calibration checks are performed on testing equipment before measurements are taken and results recorded according to ISO standards. Test Engineers interpret standards to perform tests, obtain results, and generate verdicts for specific clauses. Beyond testing, you will support the team in identifying new efficiencies and proposing future investments in equipment and methods. You will also contribute to a safe working environment by identifying areas for improvement and assisting in writing and reviewing risk assessments. This role is ideal for an electrical/electronic engineer seeking a challenging opportunity to work across various products and industries, with daily learning and development.

What do we need from you?

Applicants should have a background and education in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, with sound knowledge of electrical principles and measurements. Experience with testing equipment such as load banks, multimeters, flash testers, and earth bond testers is essential. You should be capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously, setting up test rigs, and interpreting and reporting technical data using MS Word & Excel. Attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and project management abilities are key to success in this role.

What we offer:
  • Competitive salary
  • 27 days holiday plus Bank Holidays, with the option to buy additional days
  • Private medical and dental insurance
  • Company contribution to pension scheme
  • Life assurance from day one
  • Many flexible benefits tailored to your needs
