Job description

We are looking for a qualified and experienced Temporary Works Co-ordinator (TWC) to oversee all temporary works activities on a major civil engineering construction project. This includes planning, coordination, and implementation of temporary works for structures such as cofferdams, formwork, falsework, earthwork support, traffic management schemes, scaffolding, and other site-enabling works.

You will ensure full compliance with BS 5975, CDM 2015, and client-specific standards, acting as the central point of control for all temporary works operations on site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the appointed TWC for the project in accordance with BS 5975.
  • Maintain and regularly update the Temporary Works Register.
  • Review and coordinate temporary works designs (e.g. trench support, access scaffolding, crane bases, propping systems).
  • Ensure temporary works are designed by competent personnel and independently checked where required.
  • Ensure site teams implement temporary works in accordance with approved designs and safe systems of work.
  • Issue permits (e.g. Permit to Load, Permit to Strike) following inspections and sign-off.
  • Interface with Temporary Works Designers (TWDs), consultants, subcontractors, and the construction team.
  • Chair temporary works coordination meetings and ensure all stakeholders are informed and aligned.
  • Provide briefings, toolbox talks, and guidance on temporary works procedures and risk control measures.
  • Monitor compliance and lead incident investigations related to temporary works.

Qualifications & Experience

  • HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • CITB-accredited Temporary Works Co-ordinator (TWCTC) course certification (mandatory).
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in temporary works management in civil engineering.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of:
    • Deep excavations and trench support
    • Cofferdams and earthworks
    • Temporary bridges and haul roads
    • Formwork, falsework, and propping
    • Reinforcement Stability
  • CSCS Card – Manager or Professionally Qualified Person (PQP).
  • SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) is highly desirable.
  • Familiar with CDM 2015, temporary works procedures, and design risk management.

Skills and Attributes

  • Confident working with design teams, subcontractors, and clients.
  • Strong understanding of structural principles and construction methods.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple work fronts.
  • Capable of challenging site conditions and temporary works arrangements on site
  • Knowledgeable of complex reinforcement and formwork designs

Project Environment

  • Site-based role on an active construction site
  • Working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • PPE and safety briefings required at all times.
  • Travel between satellite sites may be required.
