Qualifications

About the Role

Reporting directly to the Area Technical Manager, you'll collaborate closely with Tarmac colleagues and laboratory teams, focusing on aggregate and asphalt testing across the region. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting site and lab testing, reporting results, and supporting investigations into complaints
  • Liaising with stakeholders at various levels and advising on technical matters
  • Ensuring compliance with UKAS and company standards in all testing procedures
  • Supporting quality assurance and improvement initiatives
  • Travelling to sites across the region and working in outdoor environments

What We're Looking For

To succeed in this role, you'll bring:

  • Proven experience in materials testing, particularly with aggregates and asphalt
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively
  • A solid understanding of civil engineering materials and site operations
  • Familiarity with UKAS standards and electronic record-keeping
  • A full UK manual driving licence (maximum 6 points) - essential for site travel

Working Hours

This is a day-based role, with occasional scheduled night and weekend work to align with plant production needs.


The role is based in our Tarmac Tilbury site in East London. The plant is easily accessible via most major networks, whether this is by road or public transport. This role is commutable from locations such as Gravesend, Northfleet, Dartford, Grays, Canvey Island, Basildon, Romford, Dagenham, Bexleyheath, Belevedere, Southend-on-Sea, Brentwood and the surrounding areas.
