Technical Manager (Diagnostics / IVD)

York, UK | site based | Permanent

CY Partners is partnering with a growing diagnostics and life sciences organisation to appoint a Technical Manager for their York site.

The Technical Manager is a site-based leadership role, reporting directly to the CTO and providing day to day technical oversight of a team of Scientists within a contract development environment. The role will suit someone who enjoys being close to the science, thrives in a fast moving business and is motivated by both technical delivery and people leadership.

Importantly, while this role is focused on technical and team leadership today, there is clear opportunity to progress into a broader site leadership role over time as the business continues to scale.

The role
  • Provide technical leadership and oversight across multiple contract development projects
  • Lead, develop and support a team of Scientists, building capability, consistency and a strong knowledge sharing culture
  • Act as the technical escalation point for complex projects, troubleshooting issues and driving solutions
  • Work closely with Programme / Project Managers to ensure projects are planned, resourced and delivered effectively
  • Provide technical review and direction on new projects entering the business, ensuring alignment with development processes
  • Support the translation of development data into manufacturing and operational readiness
  • Collaborate with Regulatory to ensure design control documentation is technically accurate and robust
  • Take responsibility for laboratory activity, including equipment, maintenance and day-to-day technical operations
  • Engage with customers and internal stakeholders on technical aspects of programmes where required
What they’re looking for
  • Degree qualified scientist with experience in diagnostics, IVD or regulated life sciences development
  • Proven experience leading or mentoring scientific teams in a laboratory environment
  • Strong technical troubleshooting and data analysis capability
  • Comfortable operating in a hands-on, site-based role within a busy, delivery-focused organisation
  • Experience working within regulated environments (ISO 13485 / ISO 9001 or similar)
  • Able to influence, guide and develop others while maintaining delivery focus
  • Commercial awareness and an understanding of customer driven development work
  • Experience in lateral flow development / immunoassay development are advantageous, but not essential.
