Overview

Job Title: Technical Architect – In-flight Retail

Location: Luton, UK (Hybrid Working)

Employment: Full-time, Permanent

easyJet is embarking on an exciting transformation of its in-flight retail technology, deploying modern, scalable, and resilient supplier-led solutions to deliver a seamless onboard retail experience for customers and crew. We are seeking a Technical Architect – In-flight Retail to act as the architectural authority for this domain.

Responsibilities
  • Provide assurance and governance across all aspects of in-flight retail technology, including onboard ePOS, payments, and integrations with retail logistics and finance partners.
  • Maintain AS-IS, TO-BE, and transitional roadmaps for the in-flight retail domain; guide supplier designs to align with enterprise architecture principles, security standards, and long-term roadmaps.
  • Balance supplier oversight with collaboration across business teams and IT to ensure technology decisions deliver measurable commercial and operational value.
  • Support solution architects and delivery teams during design and implementation; collaborate with suppliers and stakeholders to drive outcomes such as increased sales, reduced fraud, and improved operational efficiency.
  • Contribute to vendor evaluations, RFI/RFP processes, and technical assessments; design solutions for reliable offline/in-flight operation today and roadmaps for future connectivity.
  • Prioritize crew usability and simplicity to enable rapid onboarding and efficient daily use.
  • Embed lifecycle management, monitoring, recoverability, and security considerations into every solution; maintain architectural integrity throughout the delivery lifecycle.
  • Build strong relationships across easyJet and supplier organisations to drive alignment and successful outcomes.
Qualifications
  • Extensive experience as a Technical Architect with a proven track record in application architecture.
  • Experience in retail, digital commerce, or payments technology with expertise in integration and cloud (RESTful APIs, messaging, event-driven patterns such as Kafka or Kinesis, AWS serverless and managed services).
  • Knowledge of mobile and security (iOS/Android, managed-device environments, secure authentication, MDM); retail and payments (ePOS, payment technologies, stock control, ERP/finance integration).
  • Data and analytics experience (reporting, BI tools, data pipelines, real-time dashboards) and connectivity/DevOps focus (designing for intermittent/offline environments, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, observability).
Desirable Attributes
  • Prior experience in payments or retail architecture at scale; knowledge of airline or in-flight systems.
  • Certifications such as TOGAF or AWS Solution Architect.
  • Awareness of emerging retail technology trends (AI/ML for demand prediction, dynamic promotions, pre-order, e-commerce, in-seat ordering).
