Job description
Overview

Are you looking to move on from working ‘out of hours’ and to progress to a Team Leader position in Blood Transfusion? Royal Preston Blood Transfusion is a highly advanced UKAS accredited laboratory offering remote release refrigerators in all main areas, supported by the Haemonetics Blood Tracking solution. We operate a bespoke Blood Transfusion LIMS with full electronic product fating, ward patient lookup including sample validity, e-issue suitability and issued products with location. This dramatically cuts down on telephone enquiries, paperwork and departmental disruption. The department is fully automated with three well established Biorad IH-1000 immuno-haematology analysers. You will work in tandem with the Transfusion practitioners and blood safety co-ordinator to deliver safe transfusion services across sites. This is a full time, permanent post working across both sites.

You will ensure that legal requirements of the Blood Safety & Quality Regulations S1 2005/50 are adhered to along with standards set by the CQC, UKAS, NICE & MHRA are achieved by the Trust in relation to Blood Transfusion. Working with clinical staff and Transfusion practitioners, you will ensure that blood transfusion is carried out by trained and competent staff and that blood transfusion practice is benchmarked against national standards. You will be expected to participate in the Senior management meetings to understand and support delivery of the operational services as well as deputise in the absence of the Lead BMS and other Team Leaders.

Duties
  • To provide technical and organisational supervision within the department.
  • To supervise and train staff as they rotate through the department.
  • To deputise for the Lead BMS as required and other team leader in Haematology as required.
  • Performance of specialised investigations and techniques in all areas the department.
Qualifications

Applicants must be HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist and should hold an MSc qualification in Blood Transfusion or Haematology (you will be required to provide proof of qualification/MSc module information prior to interview).
