Job description

As a Teaching Assistant Level 1 SEN, you will work under the supervision of teaching staff and the senior leadership team to support pupils' learning, wellbeing, and development. You ll play a vital role in helping pupils to become happy, confident and successful young adults. Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting small groups of children and implementing Individual Learning Plans
  • Assisting with supervision during teacher absence (short periods)
  • Providing feedback on pupil progress and maintaining records
  • Ensuring equal access to learning for all pupils
  • Participating in relevant training and development
  • Demonstrating commitment to performance management and continuous improvement
  • Communicating effectively and professionally with pupils, staff, parents, and external agencies
    Have an understanding of the Teaching Assistant role and child development and learning
  • Possesses strong literacy and numeracy skills (qualified to Level 2 or above)
  • Works effectively as part of a team and is committed to high professional standards
  • Is tactful, diplomatic, and able to build positive relationships with all stakeholders
  • Has experience or a keen interest in working with children or young people with communication difficulties, severe, profound, or complex learning needs
  • Can communicate clearly and confidently in spoken English; Applicants must have the right to work in the UK; we do not sponsor visa applications. Pioneer House High School is a special school located in Northern Moor which provides 100 day places for 11 to 19 year old pupils, with a unique focus in preparing pupils with significant additional needs, to become independent and productive adults. The school has a strong vocational emphasis and pupils will have the potential to progress on to supported or independent employment, internships, apprenticeships or college. The school was opened in 2016 and moved to a new, purpose built, site in 2017. We have recently expanded our site with a student run Strawberry Fox Café and additional learning and social spaces. This is a permanent post working 35 hours per week, term time only plus 5 INSET days. The starting salary is 21,662 and the full time equivalent is 25,185 Grade 3. This role is to start as soon as pre‑employment checks are complete.
