Job description

Company Description

At Catch22, we are proud of our reputation as a modern and progressive employer. Our 1,300 colleagues and 300 volunteers work at every stage of the social welfare cycle, supporting over 60,000 individuals from cradle to career. Our work spans education, social justice and rehabilitation, children's social care, family support, social action and getting people into work.

Catch22 Include

Catch22 Include schools help vulnerable young people with challenging behaviours to realise their full potential.

With extensive experience of delivering services to children and young people who have experienced difficulties in mainstream schools and whose education has irretrievably broken down, we support learners to achieve academic and vocational targets and progress into education, training and employment. This approach delivers significant long-term benefits to learners, parents and carers, communities and local authorities.

Our independent schools and a range of tailored support programmes are targeted at young people who fall into high-risk groups in all key stages, including those who are excluded, or at risk of exclusion from mainstream schools or Pupil Referral Units (PRUs), and those with social, emotional and/or mental health needs (SEMH) or special educational needs (SEN).

Job Description

The role of Teaching Assistant is an excellent opportunity to support in changing the lives of young people within our Primary school. This role will contribute to a high-quality and invaluable programme of education for vulnerable students who present challenging behaviours. Providing guidance for our pupils, you will ensure that students are effectively supported, motivated, and challenged.

Resilience is a key part of this role, alongside a good standard of education and a proactive attitude towards learning behaviour management techniques—implementing strategies and utilising de-escalation to diffuse behavioural issues.

Main Duties and Accountabilities:

  • Engaging in interventions, both in and out of lessons, to foster effective participation of students in the social, behaviour, and academic processes of the school.
  • Working with the team to implement behaviour management strategies and developing relationships with students who may be vulnerable and/or have complex needs.
  • Liaising with other agencies to ensure that student needs are fully met.
  • Supporting the teacher in the delivery of engaging and successful lessons.

  • Ability to motivate and encourage children appropriately, with experience of working with challenging students to understand their needs, and able to demonstrate effective behaviour management strategies as and when required.
  • Ability to work at an advanced level with the teacher in planning and delivery of teaching activities (including those defined in Individual Education Plans).
  • Ability to establish and maintain good relationships and rapport with internal colleagues and external contacts (e.g., parents, education psychologists), with willingness to respond flexibly to the needs of a small team.
