Job Overview

A Good secondary school in Sunderland is seeking a passionate, knowledgeable and committed English Teacher to join their successful and supportive teaching team from January 2026. This is a fantastic opportunity to inspire students across Key Stages 3 and 4, helping them develop strong analytical skills, confidence in communication, and a genuine love of literature and language.

Role Responsibilities
  • Plan, prepare and deliver engaging English lessons in line with the national curriculum.
  • Teach across KS3 and KS4, covering a wide range of literary genres, writing styles and language skills.
  • Create a stimulating and inclusive learning environment that encourages creativity, discussion and critical thinking.
  • Differentiate lessons to meet the needs of all learners, including those requiring additional support.
  • Monitor, assess and provide meaningful feedback to support pupil progress and attainment.
  • Prepare students for internal assessments and GCSE examinations, ensuring they feel confident and well prepared.
  • Contribute to curriculum planning, resource development and the ongoing improvement of the English department.
  • Support extracurricular and enrichment activities such as reading clubs, creative writing groups or theatre trips where appropriate.
Requirements
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Experience teaching English at KS3-KS4.
  • Strong subject knowledge and the ability to bring texts, themes and language concepts to life.
  • Excellent classroom management, communication skills and a commitment to raising standards.
