Job description

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Teacher of Chemistry to join our successful Chemistry Department from August 2026. This appointment has arisen due to the retirement of a long serving colleague.

The Chemistry Department is staffed by five full-time specialist Chemistry teachers, including the Head of Department, and a full-time Chemistry technician.

Science subjects are taught separately at Heriot's from S1. In S1 and S2, Chemistry teachers teach Chemistry only. Certificate Chemistry courses begin in S3, working towards National 5 presentation in S4, progressing to Higher and Advanced Higher level in S5 and S6. The Department presents high numbers of pupils for public examinations at all levels and has an excellent record of success.

The Department is well-resourced with four dedicated laboratories on two levels. The labs have all been fully refurbished and are all equipped with multi‑media facilities and modern externally‑vented fume cupboards. Resources are stored and managed across several storerooms and a technician workroom. There is a central Chemistry staff base.

In addition to curricular commitments, the successful candidate will be required to participate fully in the extra‑curricular life of the School.

Please note interviews are scheduled to take place on Thursday 12th February 2026.
