Job summary

A leading Specialty Chemical Manufacturer in the UK is seeking a Synthetic Organic Chemist to perform research and process development at both laboratory and commercial scales. The ideal candidate will have an MSc in chemistry, at least 2 years of technical experience in a chemical manufacturing environment, and strong skills in process chemistry and analytical techniques. Job description

Our client is a leading Specialty Chemical Manufacturer based in Consett. Due to the team receiving investment, they are now looking to add a Synthetic Organic Chemist to their team to perform and deliver research and process development programmes at laboratory and commercial scale.

Responsibilities

  • Development of new products and processes to support pipeline opportunities
  • Design, synthesise and characterise novel chemical compounds on a laboratory scale to support New Product Development projects
  • Contribute to brainstorming, design, evaluation and tailoring of candidate products performances.
  • Assist, implement and lead pilot scale trials to scale up laboratory processes.
  • Assist, when appropriate, with full scale trials
  • Coordinate, analyse, collate and interpret data using a range of in-house and external analytical services to evaluate process efficiency and properties of the products at laboratory, pilot and commercial scale trials.
  • Consult and review with analytical and material testing experts so that the most suitable analytical procedures are followed, and the results are reported correctly, on-time and within budget.
  • Write, implement and record laboratory experimental procedures to promote safe working practices
  • Perform calorimetric experiments (PhiTec, Simular and TSU) and existing and new chemistries as appropriate.
  • Project management in alignment with principles of PRINCE2

Experience & Qualifications
  • Ideally educated to MSc level in chemistry or other relevant subject
  • Preferably 2+ years technical experience of working in chemical manufacturing environment
  • Good understanding of process chemistry, organic chemistry and associated analytical techniques
  • Clear and concise written and spoken communication
  • IT literate with the ability to use MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project and OneNote as well as Minitab and MestReNova
  • Understanding of PRINCE2
  • Driving licence and own car desirable due to location
