About the Role:

Mid Sussex District Council is seeking a driven and knowledgeable Sustainability and Net Zero Coordinator to join their Sustainability Team. We are looking for someone with a comprehensive understanding of Sustainability with a passion and enthusiasm for addressing the impacts of Climate Change and reducing the Council's - and District's - carbon footprint.

As Sustainability and Net Zero Coordinator you will be responsible for coordinating the delivery of the Mid Sussex District Council Net Zero Programme and key elements of the Council's Sustainable Economy Strategy and Action Plan. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating and reporting on delivery of the Net Zero Programme
  • Coordinating the work of specialist consultants pertaining to specific tasks within the Action Plans
  • Bidding for funding to help deliver decarbonisation measures
  • Supporting regional partnership schemes and activities to reduce fuel poverty and improve energy efficiency of homes and business premises across the District

You will work closely with the broader Sustainable Economy Team on delivery of the Sustainable Economy Strategy and Action Plan and will be required to foster positive working relationships with teams across the Council to enable successful delivery of the Net Zero Programme.

About You:

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Professional experience in a related field / a degree in a related subject
  • Broad understanding of various sustainability-related subjects, such as carbon reduction technologies, biodiversity, energy efficiency and electric vehicles
  • Good political awareness and engagement with government policies
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Strong critical thinking skills and ability to summarise complex information
  • Strong inter-personal and communication skills - both written and verbal - and the ability to negotiate with and motivate others
