The post holder is required to support the Medical Secretary Team Leader in delivering a comprehensive administrative service to a specialty team. This includes inpatient waiting list management in accordance with the Patient Access Policy, communicating appointment and admission information to patients and carers, and typing correspondence or transcribing minutes as appropriate.
The post holder will take direction from the Medical Secretary Team Leader and Operational Services Manager for daily operations, with delegated tasks and responsibilities for managing their workload. They must prioritize clinical letters and manage their time effectively, working well under pressure in a busy environment.
Responsibilities also include supporting inpatient waiting list management, applying national RTT rules, and assisting in theatre utilization. The post holder will sort and distribute information promptly, ensure timely requests for patient notes, and liaise with medical and appointments staff to manage clinical commitments, ensuring smooth department operation.
Effective communication, both written and verbal, with patients, staff, and carers, is essential, requiring tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality. The post holder must use personal judgment to handle sensitive situations appropriately.
