Job summary

A leading engineering consultancy is seeking a Structural Engineer or Senior Structural Engineer to join their Buildings team. You'll work on diverse projects across sectors including aviation, healthcare, and heritage. The role promotes hybrid working and travel to various key UK locations, including Birmingham. Ideal candidates will be Chartered or nearly-Chartered and possess strong communication skills along with a passion for sustainable design. Job description

As our new Structural Engineer or Senior Structural Engineer, you will be part of our Buildings team, working on a range of exciting local landmarks as well as national and international projects, in a variety of sectors including commercial offices, education, healthcare, heritage, industrial, rail, aviation, defence and residential. We promote home and hybrid working however are looking for candidates that can travel into one of our key locations, which include Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Chester, Leeds, London, Manchester and Southampton.

Key tasks and responsibilities
  • Develop and agree structural concepts and design philosophies
  • Inspire and enthuse the engineers and technicians on your projects
  • Liaise with clients and collaborators, representing Ramboll at project meetings
  • Take ownership as day-to-day lead on a project or part of a project
  • Push the boundaries of low‑carbon design
Key deliverables over the first 12 months
  • Grow and maintain a network of contacts and be a great ambassador for Ramboll
  • Lead the design process for a project (size suitable for level of experience)
  • Outside day‑to‑day project work, collaborate with colleagues from the local team and beyond to support implementation of various aspects of the Ramboll Business Plan

Qualifications
  • Chartered or nearly‑Chartered with the IStructE, ICE, or international equivalent
  • An excellent communicator capable of explaining complex engineering principles in plain language, verbally, in writing, and through sketching
  • A track record of working on projects with high levels of design, sustainability, or re‑use of existing assets
  • Experience in the design of primary construction materials (steel, concrete, timber) and a good general knowledge of building construction; experience of MMC would be beneficial.
  • A passion for sustainable solutions
  • A multidisciplinary mindset and an aptitude for learning about the wider aspects of building design
