Job description
Overview

We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist to join our in-house clinical team at Underley Gardens School. Working collaboratively with the education team, you will deliver bespoke Speech and Language Therapy assessment and intervention to pupils who may have experienced developmental trauma, be neurodivergent or have SEMH needs. You will work within the standards provided in the OFG Speech and Language Therapy Ways of Working, guiding your practice within an education setting and clarifying your roles and responsibilities while taking into account the requirements of governing and professional bodies. You will be given responsibility for holding a Speech and Language therapy caseload, with the full support of your designated clinical supervisor and site lead, and will also contribute to staff training and consultation as required. Contract: Permanent (Term time only, or flexibility around Full time contract can be discussed based on your personal circumstances).

Responsibilities
  • Hold a Speech and Language Therapy caseload with the support of the clinical supervisor and site lead.
  • Deliver bespoke Speech and Language assessment and intervention to pupils with developmental trauma, neurodiversity or SEMH needs.
  • Work within the OFG Speech and Language Therapy Ways of Working to guide practice in an educational setting.
  • Collaborate with the education team and contribute to staff training and consultation as required.
  • Maintain a person-centred, safeguarding-focused approach, ensuring pupils are heard, respected, and involved in decisions that affect them.
  • Engage in multidisciplinary working and communicate effectively with families/relatives and carers.
  • Develop knowledge and skills across different areas of Speech and Language Therapy practice.
  • Attend training and work towards further qualifications relevant to the client group as required.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Undergraduate or Postgraduate degree in Speech and Language Therapy.
  • HCPC registered.
  • 1-2 years experience as a fully registered member of the RCSLT working in a similar setting.
  • Experience engaging with individuals presenting with complex and diverse communication profiles.
  • Knowledge of neurodiversity and trauma-informed practice.
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary working in a range of settings.
  • Experience communicating with/working with families, relatives and carers.
  • Interest in developing knowledge and skills in different areas of Speech and Language Therapy practice.
  • Good relationship-building, analytical and judgmental skills; good communication skills (oral and written); good time management and organisational skills.
  • Competent in core areas of Speech and Language Therapy practice and clear understanding of RCSLT Communication Standards.
  • Knowledge of various Speech and Language assessment tools, types of intervention, and how to formulate support plans based on needs profiles.
  • Knowledge of legislation and its implications for clinical practice and professional management in relation to the client group.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Willingness to attend training and work towards further qualifications relevant to the client group.
  • Desirable: understanding of sensory and motor differences that may impact communication strengths, differences, traits, difficulties and needs; understanding the relationship between arousal levels and communication; full driving license and access to a car (highly desirable).
