AI can support how you describe your skills and experience, but it should never replace your own words as we want to get to know you. We\'re shaping a workplace where ideas are encouraged, technology supports you and everyone has a voice in how we improve. If that sounds like the kind of organisation you want to be part of, we\'d love to hear from you.
We have an exciting opportunity for an SAS psychiatrist to join the Eastbourne Crisis and Home Resolution Team (CRHTT) and the Haven in Eastbourne, East Sussex. The Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team (CRHTT) provides a 7 day per week service to people experiencing an acute psychiatric crisis. The team offers intensive community-based interventions and gatekeeping of potential hospital admissions. Where a hospital admission occurs, CRHTT can assist in shortening the inpatient stay by facilitating the discharge back to the community. The Haven is a 4-chaired, nurse-led, community-based mental health crisis service designed to provide rapid assessment (up to 24hrs) and short-term support for individuals in acute mental health distress. Both CRHTT and the Haven are based within the Department of Psychiatry in Eastbourne, on the site of Eastbourne District General Hospital. The specific clinical responsibilities of this post are outlined below and should be read in conjunction with the indicative job timetable.
The post-holder will assess and treat Haven patients who have been identified by the nursing team as needing medical input. As the Haven is a nurse-led unit, it is expected that the post-holder will work collaboratively with the nursing team. In addition, the post-holder will be expected to review any Extended Length of Stay Patients who have been in the Haven for over 24 hours and provide the necessary physical health assessment, VTE assessment and a formal drug chart. The post-holder will work closely with other Sussex Partnership teams, including: Assessment and Treatment Service (ATS), Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) Teams, Learning Disability and Neurodevelopmental Services, Mental Health Liaison Services (MHLT), Specialist Older Adult Mental Health Services (SOAMHS), Crisis pathways including Blue Light Line, Rapid Response and the Sanctuary (a Crisis House in Hastings), Sussex Partnership\'s Housing Team, Staying Well (out-of-hours crisis prevention service in Eastbourne).
SPFT is committed to building a workforce that reflects the communities we serve. We particularly welcome applications from people from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds and from disabled candidates, as these groups are currently underrepresented. We provide NHS care and treatment to children, young people, adults and older people who have mental health problems, learning disabilities or neurodiversity needs. SPFT takes its responsibilities for safeguarding children, young people and adults at risk very seriously and requires all staff and bank workers to complete the relevant safeguarding training for their role.
CRHTTs typically receive around 25 new referrals weekly, including assessments for service users referred by GP via the agreed 4-hour urgent referral pathway. CRHTTs provide a gatekeeping function for all adult acute inpatient requests to avoid unnecessary hospital admissions, ensuring the least restrictive principles of care and treatment are achieved. CRHTTs use a Red, Amber and Green (RAG) zoning system to reflect assessed risk and intensity of contact. The post-holder is expected to be present for weekly MDT meetings and weekly complex case discussions and available at short notice to review patients, respond to emergencies and advise the team. The consultant psychiatrist will be expected to undertake home visits and will not normally carry their own caseload or act as care co-ordinator or key worker. The consultant will collaborate with the wider MDT in overseeing risk assessment and formulation, approving key management decisions and ensuring risk management plans are appropriate and effective.
Haven: The post-holder will assess Haven patients who need medical input and work with the nursing team. Review Extended Length of Stay patients and provide physical health and drug chart input. Work with Sussex Partnership teams including: ATS, EIP, Learning Disability and Neurodevelopmental Services, MHLT, SOAMHS, Crisis pathways, Housing Team and Staying Well. SPFT is committed to safeguarding and values collaboration with partner organisations. Our services are delivered in homes, clinics, hospitals and GP surgeries. Our services are rated by the Care Quality Commission and we are committed to innovation, including research and development.
