A leading healthcare provider in the UK is looking for a specialist nurse to join their dynamic team in gynaecological cancer care. The role involves providing essential support to patients and their families throughout diagnosis and treatment, with responsibilities ranging from patient advocacy to wound management. Ideal candidates will have over 12 months of Band 6 experience in gynaecology or oncology, with strong communication skills and a commitment to patient care. Opportunities for further training in Colposcopy or Hysteroscopy may be available after 12 months of service.
The role involves working as part of a dynamic, supportive and friendly team of specialist nurses and senior nurse hysteroscopists and colposcopists, supporting patients through diagnosis and surgical management of their gynaecological cancer. The role involves patient advocacy, providing specialist support and advice to patients with gynaecological cancer and their relatives both in person and via telephone; wound care management involving complex wounds; assessment of anxieties associated with sexuality and body image; attendance at specialist and local MDT meetings and contacting patients with outcomes. Furthermore, you will provide support to, and communicate with, the wider multi‑disciplinary team. The post holder is a recognised expert in the specialty, responsible for assessing, developing and implementing specialist nursing care programmes and undertaking specialist nursing procedures.
Responsible for providing specialist advice and support to, and liaising with, other staff. This includes the provision of specialist education and training for other staff and students.
Responsible for implementing a clearly defined integrated approach to patient care encompassing new treatments and evidence based care. Required to support research and clinical audits in own specialist area.
You will have at least 12 months band 6 experience within gynaecology and/or oncology and possess excellent communication skills.
After 12 months there may be the possibility of learning either Colposcopy OR Hysteroscopy. On completion of successful training in one of these procedures banding would increase to Band 7.
Applicants with previous specialist nurse experience in gynaecology or oncology and/or accreditation in Colposcopy or Hysteroscopy will be considered for recruitment into the Band 7 position.
