A leading NHS Trust in Shrewsbury is seeking a Speech and Language Therapist to provide specialist services for communication and dysphagia on medical wards. The successful candidate will manage complex patients and work with a multidisciplinary team. This role offers opportunities for supervision and professional development. Candidates should have experience in dysphagia and communication disorders, along with the ability to coordinate outpatient clinics. Training options for specialized patient care are available.
Opportunity to join a small specialist team at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital and the Midland Centre for Spinal Injuries. This brand‑new post works alongside the SLT clinical lead for Spinal Cord Injuries and provides an SLT service for communication and dysphagia on general medical wards, HDU, the spinal injury unit, and outpatient clinics in voice/general and neuro. You will also input into the muscle team. Training can be provided for spinal cord injury patient management and tracheostomy care. An onsite FEES service is being established.
The post sits within the wider community SLT team in Shropshire. We are a small but hardworking and friendly team delivering services to community hospitals across the county, ICS teams, and outpatient clinics for general/neuro and voice & dysfluency caseloads. We have an established voice team with regular meetings and CPD opportunities and support. Within the wider SLT team we provide services in stroke/acute medical/oncology and offer an instrumental service in Video Fluoroscopy. Regular professional SLT & CPD meetings, management supervision and clinical supervision are in place.
