Job description

We are seeking motivated, dynamic, and passionate Band 7 Community Specialist Palliative Care Nurse to work within our North Bedfordshire Team, based in Clapham, however, there is an expectation that staff will cover across the bases if needed.

Main duties of the job

This is an excellent opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills within the specialist palliative care setting. The team provide symptom management, psychological support and advanced care planning, enabling patients to remain at home in their preferred place of care with the right support. You will have the opportunity to develop leadership skills and advanced clinical decision making, working within a highly specialist area of practice.

Experience and an NMP qualification in the field of palliative care is desirable but a willingness to learn and contribute is more important.

You must have a driving license and have access to a vehicle in order to carry out your duties. You will be required to cover 7 days a week between the hours of 08:00-18.00.

  • Ability to communicate highly sensitive and complex information with patients, their relatives and carers; and with colleagues at all levels
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues and the wider multi-disciplinary team, including internal and external agencies
  • Excellent written communication skills, to include record keeping, report writing, data collection, and evaluations
  • Community Nursing Experience
  • Knowledge of national and local agenda for community nursing and end of life care
  • Knowledge of NHS legislation, underpinning palliative and cancer care, long term conditions and professional practice.

  • Ability to collect and interpret data in relation to patient activity and nursing care
  • Ability to manage frequent exposure to highly sensitive and emotional issues such as end of life care plans, deterioration of conditions and bereavement, with upset and distressed children and relatives
  • Experience of partnership working
  • Ability to undertake a broad range of nursing skills eg: syringe drivers, basic wound care
  • Knowledge of national and local agenda for community nursing and end of life care
