Salary: £38,220 + £5,673 market-enhanced payment, progressing to £41,771 + £5,242

About the Team

The Assessment Service in Hertfordshire Children’s Services carries out statutory assessments under the Children Act to determine children’s needs and risks. (url removed) Within the Assessment Service there are social workers, practitioners, Senior Practitioners, and a Multi‑Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) and Joint Child Protection Investigation Team (JCPIT) for high‑risk cases.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct statutory assessments, gathering information from families and partner agencies (e.g., schools, health, police).
  • Analyse risk and protective factors, and produce high‑quality assessments and reports.
  • Develop safeguarding plans and contribute to child‑in‑need or child protection processes.
  • Attend conferences, core groups, and court as required.
  • Provide reflective supervision and mentoring to less‑experienced practitioners.
Person Specification
  • Qualified Social Worker, registered with Social Work England.
  • Experience in child protection, assessment, or statutory social work.
  • Proficient in assessment frameworks, risk analysis and report writing.
  • Strong multi‑agency working skills.
  • Excellent communication and decision‑making skills.
