Site Engineer – Environment

The Role

A new opportunity has arisen for a Site Engineer to join the Environment division. Based in or around Durham, you will support multiple schemes across the region, working on the Northumbrian Water Framework and delivering projects across both clean and wastewater treatment facilities.

You will provide site engineering, setting‑out and technical support to ensure work is delivered safely, accurately and in line with programme, specification and quality standards.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Provide accurate engineering control and setting‑out across a range of civil, water and wastewater treatment schemes.
  • Offer technical guidance to operatives and subcontractors, ensuring construction details are clearly understood.
  • Maintain daily site diaries, including photographic records, and ensure accurate data capture.
  • Carry out materials reconciliation to support efficient use of site resources.
  • Ensure surveying equipment is properly maintained, calibrated and fit for purpose.
  • Complete as‑built surveys and produce 2D/3D sketches and associated records.
  • Support planning, programming and monitoring of site activities.
  • Maintain quality records and ensure all works comply with Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
  • Identify opportunities for innovation, improved techniques and smarter delivery.
  • Promote and maintain a strong Health, Safety & Environmental culture.
  • Provide engineering support to ensure works are completed to programme, budget and technical specification.
About You
Essential
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and site data.
  • Experience with setting‑out methods and equipment including Level and EDM (GPS experience beneficial).
  • A positive, proactive approach with strong problem‑solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to build collaborative working relationships.
  • An understanding of Health & Safety requirements within a construction environment.
  • CSCS card and SMSTS (or willingness to work towards accreditation – training available).
Desirable
  • Experience within the water sector or civil engineering projects.
  • Familiarity with digital site management tools such as Field View or Viewpoint.
