Job summary

The Site Agent is responsible for managing the on-site delivery of civil engineering or marine infrastructure projects to ensure they are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the specified quality. This role oversees daily site operations, coordinates subcontractors and labour, manages site health and safety, and ensures compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements. The Site Agent is a key point of contact for site-level decision making and plays a critical role in delivering successful project outcomes for the company.

Key Responsibilities
  • Site Management & Supervision

    Oversee daily site activities, ensuring efficient coordination of labour, subcontractors, plant, and materials.

    Implement site set-up, logistics, and traffic management plans.

    Lead daily briefings and toolbox talks, ensuring clear communication of tasks and safety measures.

    Monitor site progress against the programme and take action to address delays or issues.

  • Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance

    Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with HSE procedures and relevant legislation.

    Conduct site inspections, audits, and risk assessments, implementing control measures as necessary.

    Promote a culture of safety and actively participate in incident investigations and reporting.

    Ensure correct use of PPE and safe working practices at all times.

  • Quality Assurance & Technical Delivery

    Ensure that works are delivered in accordance with design drawings, specifications, and quality standards.

    Supervise testing, inspections, and quality control processes, maintaining relevant documentation.

    Identify and resolve technical issues on site, liaising with the engineering team as required.

    Review and approve method statements and risk assessments for site activities.

  • Programme & Progress Monitoring

    Assist with developing and maintaining site programmes, reporting on progress to the Project Manager.

    Track labour and equipment usage, material deliveries, and site resources.

    Implement short-term planning and sequencing of works to optimise delivery.

    Prepare daily and weekly site records and reports.

  • Stakeholder & Team Coordination

    Coordinate with project managers, engineers, quantity surveyors, and site operatives to ensure cohesive project delivery.

    Maintain effective relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and client representatives.

    Attend site meetings, progress reviews, and client briefings.

    Manage site-based communication and issue resolution.

  • Commercial Awareness & Cost Control

    Support commercial teams with accurate site data for valuations, variations, and claims.

    Monitor resource usage and material wastage to maintain cost-efficiency.

    Assist in managing site-related costs and ensuring work is carried out in line with budgets.

Qualifications & Experience
  • HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • CSCS (Site Manager or Supervisor level) and SMSTS certification required.
  • First Aid at Work, Temporary Works Supervisor, and other relevant site certifications are desirable.
  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience in a site management or supervisory role, preferably on marine or civil engineering projects.
  • Experience working with NEC or JCT contracts and knowledge of construction documentation.
  • Strong leadership, organisational, and decision‑making skills.
  • In‑depth knowledge of construction methods, sequencing, and temporary works.
  • Excellent communication and team coordination capabilities.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and contract requirements.
  • Confident in reporting, planning, and managing site-level activities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; knowledge of project planning tools (e.g., MS Project) is beneficial.
  • Site-based role with travel across multiple project locations in the UK.
  • Outdoor work in all weather conditions; use of PPE is mandatory.
  • Extended working hours and weekend work may be required to meet programme milestones.
  • May involve overnight stays and remote working depending on project location.
