Job description

Leeds Recovery College offers free courses and workshops for adults (18+) who live, work, or study in Leeds. Our aim is to support mental health, wellbeing, and personal recovery through evidence based wellbeing courses and education.

Our courses are co-designed and co-facilitated by people with lived experience of mental health challenges alongside professionals, ensuring both perspectives are equally valued.

Our topics cover awareness sessions, self-management courses, self-care, and body-based wellbeing activities.

We’re looking for sessional lead facilitators

We are looking for enthusiastic, passionate and competent individuals to lead on the facilitation of 2 different sets of courses in the Recovery College. We are looking for individuals with the following skills, experience and knowledge:

  • Experience in training and group delivery, confident leading workshops and managing group dynamics.
  • Experience delivering mental health and wellbeing related topics (e.g., boundaries, self compassion and assertiveness).
  • Both lived and learnt experiences of mental health are valued in our workforce.
  • Experience of working in community settings with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and uphold the Recovery College ethos of co-production, inclusivity, wellbeing and self management aligned to wellness recovery action planning.
  • Expertise in body‑based wellbeing practices in the following areas:
    • Sound Therapy: qualification such as Foundation Certificate in Sound Healing Practitioner Level Qualification.
    • Tai‑Chi: instructor qualification and evidence of teaching hours.
    • Mindfulness: qualification such as MBSR.
  • Qualified practitioners should have relevant liability insurance.
  • CIMSPA membership preferable for physical activities where relevant.

What you’ll do
  • Access to induction and training through the Recovery College.
  • Lead engaging, inclusive workshops and courses.
  • Work alongside co‑facilitators, and community engagement volunteers to ensure sessions reflect both lived and professional expertise.
  • Support participants in building confidence and skills for wellbeing and mental health recovery.
  • For sound and other body‑based sessions, hours will reflect additional preparation, equipment requirements, and professional input, i.e. more than the time spent delivering the session.
Delivery and Preparation

When we schedule courses, we recognise that delivery involves more than just the time spent in front of a group. Additional hours are built into the schedule for planning, preparation, and set‑up so sessions run smoothly and facilitators feel prepared.

For example:

  • A 4‑week wellbeing course will include time allocated for course planning and preparation, which is separate from delivery.
  • Each session includes time for set‑up, debrief, and pack‑up, in addition to the actual delivery time.
  • Example:
    A 2.5‑hour session might include an additional 2 hours for set‑up, preparation, and pack‑up, plus extra hours for course planning and review.
