At NELFT, we’re proud to be the largest provider of Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) in England. Our MHSTs deliver evidence-based individual and group interventions within educational settings for children and young people aged 4 to 18 with mild to moderate mental health difficulties, and promote whole-school approaches to positive mental health.
Integrated, Holistic Support
MHSTs work alongside counsellors, nurses, educational psychologists and voluntary sector partners to strengthen support for children and young people. For those with more complex needs, we provide a vital link to CAMHS services for timely access to the right care.
We’re seeking a passionate and experienced practitioner who is:
You must be fully registered with a relevant professional or regulatory body (BPS or BABCP) and have extensive clinical experience working with children and young people with emotional wellbeing and mental health needs.
As a valued member of our Mental Health Support Team (MHST), you’ll deliver high-quality mental health support to children and young people across schools and colleges in SW Essex. Responsibilities include:

We emphasise welcoming new starters with a comprehensive induction (up to two weeks) including mandatory and systems training and meetings with the executive team and senior managers. Induction is held at the Trust head office in Rainham, Essex.
Probationary Period: This post is subject to a probationary period.
Join the South West Essex MHST – covering Basildon, Thurrock, Brentwood and Billericay. We deliver early intervention and prevention-focused mental health support across a wide area and value collaboration, compassion and continuous learning. Flexible working applications are welcomed.
We actively encourage CPD. The successful candidates will undertake the Senior Wellbeing Practitioner (SWP) course starting January 2026.
