Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting an employee-owned, multidisciplinary planning consultancy of around 50 professionals in their search for a Senior Town Planner or Associate Town Planner. This is an excellent opportunity for either a Senior Town Planner looking to step up or an experienced Associate Town Planner seeking to further develop their leadership and project management responsibilities.

The successful Senior Town Planner or Associate Town Planner will work on a diverse portfolio of projects for prestigious clients, providing expert planning advice and contributing to the successful delivery of complex planning schemes. This role offers genuine career progression within a collaborative, people-focused environment.

The Role

The Senior Town Planner / Associate Town Planner role involves working across a wide range of planning projects, managing planning applications, and supporting Directors on major schemes. As a Senior Town Planner or Associate Town Planner, you will take responsibility for delivering high-quality planning submissions while assisting with the management of the wider team's workload.

Key responsibilities
  • Supporting Directors and senior colleagues to drive forward major projects
  • Managing small to large-scale planning applications, depending on experience
  • Undertaking research and analysis to inform planning strategies
  • Preparing planning appraisals of land, buildings, and development concepts
  • Drafting planning reports, planning applications, development plan representations, and Environmental Statements
  • Liaising with planning officers, statutory consultees, and third parties
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, colleagues, and fellow professionals
  • Developing creative and commercially aware planning solutions
  • Taking financial responsibility for projects from inception through to completion
  • Remaining up to date with planning policy and best practice
  • Attending external events and delivering presentations
About You

To be successful as a Senior Town Planner or Associate Town Planner, you will demonstrate:

  • A relevant degree and a genuine enthusiasm for planning
  • RTPI membership (Chartered status required for Associate Town Planner level)
  • Proven experience in the private or public sector, commensurate with level
  • A strong understanding of planning principles and policy
  • Excellent technical report writing and presentation skills
  • A proactive, solutions-focused mindset
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
