Senior Specification Technologist – Ingredients

Location: Blackburn

Type: Permanent

Hours: Monday‑Friday 9:00‑17:00 (earlier start possible)

Salary: circa £35,000

Job Summary

Our client, an ingredients company part of a global group, is looking to recruit an experienced Snr Specification Technologist or a technologist wishing to progress their career, working at a modern facility in Blackburn with excellent motorway links.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with formulation trials, stability testing and translating R&D products into manufacturing‑ready specifications.
• Check associated labelling/artwork and/or formulation against agreed specifications.
• Manage Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and ensure raw material and finished product specifications are accurate.
• Assist with continued QMS development.
• Assist and complete internal auditing (not supplier).
• Assist and complete labelling audits.
• Assist and complete GMP audits.
• Data entry using Word, Excel, SharePoint, etc.
• Deputise for the Technical Manager during annual leave, busier periods and ad‑hoc.
• Maintain a strong presence on the shop floor and in the laboratory, collaborating with staff and senior leaders.
• Interact with clients and report updates to clients.
• Ensure compliance with UK and EU food regulations (e.g., FSA, Allergen Labelling, E‑numbers, REACH, IFRA standards).

Candidate Profile

• Degree in Food Science, Chemistry or a STEM‑related discipline.
• Experience in a similar QA, Specification Tech or related role within a BRC (or GMP) company in Food, Ingredients, nutraceuticals, etc.
• Internal auditing experience (BRC); GMP experience desirable but not essential.
• Experience creating and reporting Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
• Proficient with Word, Excel, SharePoint, etc.
• HACCP certificates desirable.
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
