Job description

At Passenger, we build technology for good, and we're looking for a like-minded Senior Software Engineer who is passionate about delivering a positive impact on the world around us.

You’ll join an existing team of talented engineers, bringing your can‑do attitude to help us plan, deliver, and improve complex systems. You’ll primarily be working hands‑on with the Symfony framework deploying to AWS to solve interesting challenges every day.

About you

You are a highly competent Senior Software Engineer with 3 or more years of professional experience in a senior role, comfortable in environments where scale and agility are critical. You truly excel at owning the full software lifecycle, driven to deliver high‑quality features with minimal guidance.

Technically, you are a full‑stack expert, comfortable with PHP frameworks like Symfony (or similar) and front‑end technologies using JavaScript / TypeScript. You are a standout engineer who applies a deep ability to design and test solutions, using a quality‑first approach to build applications that are robust, secure, scalable, and accessible.

More than just a coder, you are a leader who uses your whole‑system knowledge to coach and mentor junior colleagues, and are always proactive about identifying and improving team processes.

Key responsibilities

Your primary focus will be to plan and lead development on feature sets, coordinating the technical build across different parts of our architecture. You will be expected to design, code, test, and document solutions of medium‑to‑high complexity, ensuring technical ownership throughout.

This role requires you to operate the production services you build, meaning you’ll be actively involved in ensuring our services meet all performance KPIs. When incidents occur, you’re critical in quickly identifying, locating, and fixing service faults, which includes taking part in the out‑of‑hours on‑call structure. Finally, you will actively contribute to team improvement, sharing knowledge and experience to help us all get better at what we do.

Location

We’re looking for someone to join our team in a remote role. We value in‑person connections and require you to attend our office at least four times a year for team collaboration and company events.

If you live within a 35‑mile radius of our office, you’re welcome to work from there as often as you like, five days a week. This offers you the best of both worlds : the flexibility of remote work with the option to connect in person whenever it suits you.

What we offer

Starting annual salary up to £65,000 depending on experience

Flexible working hours
