Job description
Overview

Senior rotational clinical pharmacist opportunity at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust. You will rotate across specialties to help develop clinical pharmacy services at Tunbridge Wells Hospital, working with Principal Pharmacists and the team to promote best practice across care groups. The role aims to optimise patient care during hospital stay and at discharge, providing enhanced clinical experience across disciplines within a multidisciplinary team. The Clinical Pharmacy Team supports medicines management, medicines optimisation, and training for Foundation Pharmacists and other trainees. You will be supported to achieve agreed objectives and to develop advanced clinical knowledge and negotiating skills as a senior clinical pharmacist. Please note this role is currently only being advertised to staff members who are currently working within the Kent and Medway ICB.

Main duties
  • Lead, develop, and participate in clinical pharmacy services across the Trust.
  • Act as a role model and provide specialist and general advice to the various specialties.
  • Participate regularly in multidisciplinary ward rounds, including post-take ward rounds, delivering high quality, cost-effective, patient-focused pharmaceutical care.
  • Ensure a high level of clinical pharmacy input to areas within the care groups.
  • Promote safe and economical drug use and identify and manage risk within the specialty.
  • Develop, implement and audit guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Be responsible for financial reporting, drug usage and expenditure forecasting, and drug budget management.
  • Provide education and training to clinical pharmacy staff, healthcare professionals, patients and carers within and outside the Trust.
  • Work across interfaces to ensure continuity of pharmaceutical care at admission and discharge.
  • Participate in practice and clinical research and audit.
  • Collaborate with the Principal Pharmacist to extend the boundaries of professional practice within the care groups.

Qualifications

Essential:
• Master (MPharm) degree in pharmacy
• Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council
• Completion of Foundation Stage 1 Training

Desirable:
• Royal Pharmaceutical Society member
• Foundation Stage 2 Training or equivalent
• Independent/supplementary prescribing qualification

Experience/Knowledge

Essential:
• Post-registration hospital experience or equivalent clinical experience
• Experience delivering high-quality clinical pharmacy services to wards/departments
• Experience in clinical pharmacy training
• Strong clinical/pharmaceutical knowledge for safe, effective, cost-conscious medicine use

• Experience as a trainee pharmacist tutor or supervisor for pharmacy students
