Senior Quality Engineer – Rail Infrastructure

Location: Bristol (office-based with site visits)

Salary: £51,000 – £60,000 + company car or £4,700 car allowance

The Role

An established infrastructure delivery organisation is seeking a Senior Quality Engineer to support major rail projects in the South West. This role plays a key part in ensuring works are delivered to the highest quality standards, in line with client requirements and internal management systems.

You will work closely with the Quality Manager to develop and maintain quality processes, lead audits, support project teams, and help embed a strong Defect Free culture across complex infrastructure works.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and maintain project quality systems
  • Communicate quality requirements and best practice across project teams
  • Plan and conduct internal and supply chain audits
  • Review subcontractor quality documentation and ensure compliance
  • Prepare project-specific quality procedures and provide implementation guidance
  • Support the development and application of Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs)
  • Manage NCRs and snagging processes, ensuring timely close-out
  • Support handover activities and carry out regular quality progress checks
  • Deliver quality awareness and training sessions to project teams
  • Contribute to sustainability objectives, including carbon reduction initiatives
Candidate Profile
  • Strong background in quality management within rail or infrastructure projects
  • Qualified internal auditor with experience of process and supply chain audits
  • Confident communicator with the ability to influence at all levels
  • Experience mentoring or supporting junior quality team members
  • Knowledge of BIM Level 2 within infrastructure environments (desirable)
