A leading healthcare provider in East Grinstead seeks a Senior Psychological Therapist to provide psychological support to patients within specialist trauma services. Qualifications

  • Provide psychological support to patients referred to specialist services.

Job description

The position will involve working with in-patients and Specialist and Trauma teams and would suit someone who likes a very varied day, who likes working in a multi-disciplinary team setting and who wants to increase their knowledge of the specialist services offered within the NHS and the life changing effects specialist teams can offer. Suits quick thinkers who are kind and believe that the physical and emotional need to co-exist to form well being in an individual.

Main duties of the job

Involves establishing good working relationships with the specialist teams in the hospital and working with the teams to identify what the Senior Psychological Therapist can offer. Any day might involve liaising with the various specialist teams to see what psychological support is needed for the patient pathway. Also involves liaising with external services to ensure a smooth pathway for the patient whose needs are complex. Involves offering staff training, supervision and support to increase their capacity to understand the psychological impact and pressures of trauma on the individual (patient or staff member). Supporting individual members of staff to increase their awareness of psychological approaches or mental health approaches. It may involve supervising trainees from the University of Surrey who send trainees to us for their Specialist third year placements. It can involve joining various departments who offer training for the broader hospital setting on the psychological impact of various health issues. It can involve looking at opportunities for research within the departments (Sleep, Burns, Speech and Language), or if you have an interest yourself you would be supported to explore a personal development in that area.

Job responsibilities

The role that is being advertised is that of a Senior Psychological Therapist whose main responsibilities would be to offer support to patients referred to Specialist and Trauma services within Queen Victoria Hospital and to offer onsite support to patients accessing the hospital either through the trauma route or the elective surgery route. The candidate would work closely with the multi-disciplinary teams and specialist nursing teams within the hospital and offer psychological training, support and supervision where needed to enhance the patient experience of those individuals finding themselves visiting patient pathways. The candidate would be joining a busy dedicated team made up of Clinical Psychologists, Psychotherapists and Counsellors. CPD and personal development within the role would be supported.

  • Doctorate in Clinical Psychology/Masters or equivalent in Psychotherapy/CBT/Counselling
  • Experience of working in a medical setting or large statutory or voluntary organisaton
  • Qualifications in EMDR or similar evidence based Trauma Therapy
  • Experience of working with physical health issues
  • Experience of working with Mental Health issues
