Overview

Reimagine what it means to buy from Britain’s most trusted brands. At Argos, we’ve always been a bit ahead of the curve. From the iconic catalogue to game-changing click-and-collect, we’ve shaped how the UK shops for decades. Today, our mission is even bolder: to make every buying experience, whether at Argos, Tu or Habitat, not just seamless, but remarkable.

We’re looking for a talented and experienced Senior Product Manager for Argos Commercial, excelling in the complex problem space, brilliant at working across multiple teams and someone who puts progress before perfection. We welcome applicants who have a strong technical background, have worked across horizontal outcomes and love collaborating with other people. In this pivotal position, you will help to lead and execute on the strategic vision for Argos Commercial’s Stockless ecosystem, working closely with engineers, architects, 3rd party software providers and the broader product team. Experience with data mapping, transformation, and orchestration across diverse technology stacks is highly desirable.

We’re aggressively growing our range and deepening our relevance by embracing stockless models, partnering with suppliers to offer more choice without holding physical inventory. You’ll be key to building the product experiences and systems that make that work: integrating complex data models and taxonomies, surfacing new inventory, integrating third-party fulfilment, and managing new complexities in order management and returns, keeping the whole eco-system working in harmony.

Responsibilities
  • Supporting end-to-end delivery by maintaining a 90-day product roadmap, full year big rock view, as well as a prioritised and estimated FY backlog, including regularly communicating progress and proactively managing risks.
  • Coordinate and report post-launch evaluation to validate that products work for customers or colleagues as designed and value is delivered, measured by appropriate metrics and through post investment reviews as needed
  • Track both effort and value delivery identifying opportunities for cost reduction, using this insight to inform prioritisation of opportunities for the product.
  • Collaborate with other product teams and 3rd parties to launch new product features.
  • Champion the needs of our customers and colleagues, using insight from multiple data-sources to drive value-led prioritisation
  • Monitor relevant industry trends and engage both internal and external teams as appropriate to build shared insight
How I will succeed
  • Ability to bridge the gap between business and technical stakeholders, ensuring alignment on architecture, integration, and delivery priorities
  • Apply insight, data and research to ensure your team are focused on making the biggest difference for customers and the business as defined by agreed product metrics (OKRs)
  • Prioritise, coordinate and communicate the resolution of live product issues as required.
  • Build a highly collaborative relationship with engineering, working together at all levels to work together to solve problems for our customers and the business
  • Consistently engaging and motivating people with a variety of perspectives around the roadmap for your product; facing into difficult conversations and giving others licence to challenge your perspective
  • Creating a positive impact with internal and external audiences, ensuring senior stakeholder advocacy for the product
  • Creative problem solving, enthusiasm for supporting delivery of change through people and technology
What I need to know
  • Experience delivering or managing platform products, especially those that enable integration between multiple systems such as IPaaS, data sources, or third-party services
  • Knowledge and understanding of a general merchandise retail business, the technology landscape, and how to maximise the value that products can and will add
  • Understanding of Agile delivery and modern engineering team practices
  • Knowledge of technical product development principles and methodologies
What I need to show
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical requirements into scalable product solutions, working with APIs, data pipelines, or integration frameworks.
  • You are bold, curious, resilient and empathetic and able to connect with stakeholders and the team in an authentic way. What’s more, you’ll be comfortable with making decisions, challenging assumptions and taking risks.
  • You thrive on translating business goals, technology strategies and market knowledge into a product roadmap that prioritises delivery of value and enables future business agility
  • You really get the customer and can translate requirements into clear user stories and sprint goals for the engineering teams
  • You’re technically curious, having worked directly with engineers, architects and third parties building real software. You ask the right questions so that you can help others understand your product
  • You’re courageous and understand that failing and learning isn’t really failing at all. You’ll encourage the team to experiment and try new and exciting solutions
  • A people person. You’ll build great relationships. We need people who want to help us build a brilliant team culture and make Sainsbury’s a great place to work.
Resources available to me
  • Line manager, peers and wider team
  • Product competency framework and community of practice
  • Learning and development opportunities
  • Specific budget for products (budget ownership sits with PPM Line Manager)
What decisions I can make
  • All decisions related to delivering the roadmap for the product
  • Prioritisation and value return across the product
