Job description

Position: Senior Chartered Town Planner

Location: Newcastle

Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting Planning Potential, a respected and independent planning consultancy, in the appointment of a Senior Chartered Town Planner for their Newcastle office.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious planner to join a friendly and forward-thinking team with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality planning advice to a broad client base across the UK.

The Role:

As a Senior Planner, you will play a key role in delivering complex planning projects for a diverse mix of clients across residential, commercial, retail, and mixed-use sectors. You will be supported by experienced professionals while also mentoring junior team members and contributing to business development activities.

You will be expected to:

  • Lead and manage a variety of planning projects
  • Prepare, submit, and negotiate planning applications and appeals
  • Deliver commercially sound planning advice to private sector clients
  • Liaise with local authorities, stakeholders, and consultees
  • Draft planning statements, representations, and design and access statements
  • Contribute to client retention and identify new business opportunities

Requirements:

  • Chartered Member of the RTPI
  • Experience in town planning, ideally within consultancy
  • Excellent knowledge of the UK planning system
  • Confident in dealing with clients, local authorities, and stakeholders
  • Strong report writing, communication, and organisational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines

Desirable:

  • A network of local contacts in the North East
  • Experience in public consultations and appeal work
  • Business development or fee proposal experience
