Job description

Are you an experienced Pharmacy Technician looking to develop your skills in medicines procurement? We are looking for a motivated and organised individual to join our team as a Senior Pharmacy Technician - Procurement at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust.

In this role, you will play a key part in ensuring the safe, effective, and cost-efficient procurement of medicines for the Trust. You will support the management of medicines shortages, contribute to audits and cost improvement projects, and work closely with suppliers, pharmacists, and regional colleagues to deliver a reliable medicines supply chain.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to patient care by helping to secure timely access to medicines, while developing specialist knowledge in procurement, governance, and unlicensed medicines. You'll also have opportunities for further training and career development, including CIPS qualifications.

Main duties of the job
  • Support the Lead Pharmacy Technician - Procurement in the safe, effective, and efficient procurement of medicines within the Trust.
  • Ensure compliance with national and regional contracts, procurement governance, and legal requirements.
  • Contribute to cost-effective medicines management by supporting procurement audits, stock control, and cost improvement projects

Education, Qualifications & Training
  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Accredited Checking Technician, or willingness to achieve within 12 months
  • NVQ Assessor qualification or equivalent
  • CIPS Level 3 (or willingness to work towards)
  • Member of APTUK
Experience
  • Post-qualification experience as a pharmacy technician (hospital, community or primary care)
  • Experience of Pharmacy Procurement
  • Experience of training Pharmacy Staff
  • At least 2 years' experience in a hospital pharmacy procurement role
  • Experience of audit, project work or cost improvement initiatives
  • Experience of assessing competence against defined performance or competency frameworks
