Overview

Senior Mortgage Underwriter – Central Belt, Scotland

Salary: £dependent on experience, up to £45k. Our client is an established, customer-focused lender expanding its lending offerings. This is a new role in a close-knit team of 6, reporting to the Mortgage Underwriting Manager. The role involves assessing complex residential mortgage applications up to £1m and providing excellent customer service. You will be expected to be in the office in the Central Belt at least once a week (likely more during the initial period) with flexibility to work from home thereafter.

Responsibilities
  • Assess mortgage applications in line with lending policy and regulatory standards (MCOB).
  • Perform detailed affordability assessments, including non-standard income and complex applicant profiles.
  • Apply manual underwriting judgement with freedom to apply common sense without the restrictions of rigid credit scoring.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior underwriters and administrative assistants.
  • Contribute towards underwriting policy reviews and process improvements.
  • Liaise with intermediaries and internal stakeholders to progress applications efficiently.
