Senior Mental Health Practitioner – HMP Belmarsh (category A men’s prison, Thameside)

We are looking for a compassionate and driven Senior Mental Health Practitioner to join our Mental Health team at HMP Belmarsh. You will work with a multi-disciplinary team to support patients and help you succeed in a secure environment.

Hours and Salary

Hours: 24 hours per week on a 5-week rolling rota

Shifts may include 7:00–19:00 and 8:00–16:00; includes weekends and bank holidays

Salary: £44,863–£53,172 per year (dependent on experience). This is a full-time position.

Main duties of the job
  • Responsible for assessment and ongoing management of patients’ mental health needs
  • Work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team as an autonomous practitioner managing a caseload of patients; assess physical, social and psychological needs to develop a holistic health care plan
  • Contribute to nursing strategy and vision; provide evidence-based care informed by patient feedback and tailored to what matters to them
  • Deliver non-judgemental care, build therapeutic relationships, and maintain professional boundaries
  • Participate in assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care following policies and safeguarding procedures
Qualifications and experience
  • Occupational Therapist or Social Worker – HCPC/NMC registered
  • Experience in mental health settings; knowledge of this patient group
  • Continued Professional Development evidence
  • Experience collaborating with other agencies in a multi-disciplinary environment

Desirable: experience in hospital, community or prison settings
