About the role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Medical Photographer to join our dynamic team at Great Ormond Street Hospital. This is a 12‑month fixed‑term position in a busy central London department providing high‑quality photography and videography services across clinical areas, theatres, and studios. Our work supports clinicians in delivering exceptional care and includes strong collaboration with GOSH Arts and GOSH Charity.
What we're looking for
- A qualified Medical Photographer, ideally Band 5 ready for progression or Band 6 seeking development.
- Skilled in 3D photography and all aspects of medical photography, including sensitive areas such as bereavement and non‑accidental injuries.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Proven ability to produce consistent, high‑quality clinical images and creative PR content.
- Applicants must present a portfolio (digital or printed) and complete a short studio‑based photography test.
Responsibilities
- Manage your own workload daily to meet the demands of the service.
- Work closely with the Photographic Manager in supervising clinical photographers and trainees, maintaining the service and performing quality control and performance review.
- Coordinate and organise complex photographic or video productions and public‑relations photography, scheduling staff, patients and accommodation to meet deadlines.
- Ensure safe use, maintenance and storage of valuable digital equipment and photographic resources.
- Maintain appropriate levels of stock to meet the photographic requirements of each individual site.
- Carry out medical photography with ethical practice, using tact and diplomacy to gain patient consent for highly sensitive images.
- Ensure all photography produced within the department is of a professional standard, using correct equipment and lighting techniques to achieve medically and legally valuable images.

- Degree in Medical Illustration / Clinical Photography or a Degree in Photography together with a PG certificate in Medical Illustration / Clinical Photography
- Accredited registration with the Professional Standards Authority – Academy of Healthcare Science (AHCS)
Experience / Knowledge
- Experience of working in a Medical Illustration department or equivalent profession.
- Experience in Clinical Photography and 3D photography.
- Experience in Adobe Photoshop / Adobe Camera Raw Software / Adobe Premiere.
- Competent in the use of Mac/PC computers and Microsoft Office 365.
- Broad understanding of diseases and conditions and how photography is applied to these conditions.
Skills / Abilities
- Ability to organise self and service workload.
- Ability to use initiative and work independently.
- Ability to adhere to strict routine protocols for clinical photography.
- Discrete and maintain confidentiality in accordance with Data Protection legislation.
- Project management.
