Job summary

A reputable design and build contractor is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to support the Detailed Design phase of MEICA projects in Greater Manchester. The role involves producing mechanical design deliverables and ensuring compliance with industry standards. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of mechanical design experience in the water industry and strong knowledge of relevant design tools. Hybrid working options are available.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years' mechanical design experience in the UK water industry.
  • Experience in clean water and wastewater mechanical systems.
  • Registered with a professional body and working towards chartership.

Responsibilities

Job description

Job Role: Mechanical Design Engineer
Salary / Rate: 45– 50 /hour Outside IR35
Location: Greater Manchester (Hybrid working)

Our client is a reputable Design & Build Contractor looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to help support the Detailed Design phase of multiple MEICA projects on major UK water frameworks.



About the Role:

  • Provide mechanical design deliverables that satisfy safety and quality requirements
  • Produce mechanical design calculations and general arrangement drawings for the UK water industry
  • Direct and support CAD technicians and junior designers
  • Prepare scopes of work for and check the output of subcontract M&E design teams
  • Liaise with suppliers, prepare mechanical equipment specifications (e.g., pumps, pipework, valves), and review technical submissions
  • Conduct design investigations and produce technical reports and mechanical specifications
  • Ensure design work is compliant with WRAS, WIMES, and other industry technical standards
  • Implement and record any design changes through the project lifecycle
  • Estimate hours and resources required for mechanical design packages
  • Attend and present at meetings and design reviews as required


About You:

  • Graduate, HND or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years' mechanical design experience in the UK water industry
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant mechanical design tools and software (e.g., AutoCAD, Plant 3D, SolidWorks)
  • Experience in clean water and wastewater mechanical systems (infrastructure and non–infrastructure)
  • Strong technical knowledge of pumping stations, chemical dosing systems, HVAC, pipework systems, and equipment layouts
  • Registered with a professional body (e.g., IMechE) and working towards chartership if not already chartered
  • Strong communication and problem–solving skills
  • Results–driven with a commitment to technical excellence and continuous improvement
