Job description
About Sava

All the health information we need is within us. Just below the skin. SAVA is redefining the way people interact with their health by developing the most advanced biosensing technology science has to offer, capable of accessing bodily information in a painless, real–time and affordable way.

The Role

At Sava, we are looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our multi–disciplinary team to develop a next–generation biosensing device. In this role, you will contribute significantly to the mechanical design of our product. You will work closely with a diverse team of engineers and scientists across all stages of development, from R&D to scale production. We value people who are keen to continuously learn, adapt and contribute to both product development and team growth. The ideal candidate is highly motivated and driven, with a strong desire to grow and advance within our rapidly growing company.

What You'll Do
  • Support mechanical design activities for a medical device throughout its development lifecycle, including concepting, prototype design, fixture design, design for manufacture and design for assembly
  • Solve complex mechanical, electromechanical and biomechanical problems through analysis of data, experimental design and creative design
  • Contribute towards debugging and root cause analysis efforts
  • Research existing and emerging technologies and, where relevant, apply them to the betterment of our product
  • Provide technical oversight and support more junior team members in developing their engineering skills
  • Carry out thorough independent design reviews
  • Collaborate with external manufacturers and partners to support the fabrication of mechanical components
  • Ensure proper engineering processes are carried out including, among others, identifying and quantifying risks, generating requirements and detailed documentation of results
  • Have ownership over your own work, planning, budgeting and carrying it through to completion
  • Collect and act upon observations from operators and feedback from users to improve the design and manufacturing process of our product
What We're Looking For
  • 4–7 years' experience in mechanical engineering in a regulated field and end–to–end product development
  • High competence in 3D mechanical design software
  • Significant experience in designing for manufacture in a variety of fabrication techniques (3D printing, machining, forming, injection–moulding etc.)
  • Confidence in working with multi–disciplinary teams, and understanding engineering trade–offs and interface control requirements
  • Creative but realistic approach to problem solving and product design
  • Strong technical communication skills
  • Ability to leverage engineering tools and software to improve efficiency and quality of work
  • Ability to analyse tolerance stack ups to design robust mechanical systems
  • Skill with hands on engineering, assembly and craft work
  • Solid foundation in fundamental engineering principles (solid mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, materials etc.)
  • Good understanding of product development processes and relevant standards and regulations
  • Willingness to contribute to building the company's processes and support training
Bonus Points For
  • Confidence in basic coding, as applied to analysis of data or hardware control
  • Practical experience with engineering analysis tools, such as MATLAB/Octave, LabView, ANSYS etc.
  • Foundation in bioengineering and understanding the interaction between engineered products and the human body
  • Experience designing microfabricated and high–precision components
  • Familiarity with basic electronics
  • Experience with fluidics and/or microfluidics
  • Understanding of pneumatic circuits
Why Sava?

This is a high–ownership, high–responsibility role in a company that's building something complex, meaningful, and fast. The expectations are high, the learning curve is steep, and the work is often messy–but the impact is real.

We don't have room for egos or passengers. What we do have is a team of thoughtful, driven, and mission aligned people who are committed to building something better–and doing it with urgency and integrity.
