Qualifications

  • Professional qualification as a Solicitor, Barrister or Fellow of CILEX.
  • Experience in at least one area of planning, highways, property, contracts, or public law.
  • Ability to manage complex or sensitive matters independently.
  • Strong drafting, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience providing clear advice to senior leaders.
  • Excellent communication skills for non-lawyers.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a varied caseload including planning enforcement and property transactions.
  • Provide legal advice to officers, senior leaders, and Members.
  • Represent the Council in tribunals and public inquiries.
  • Support committees ensuring decisions are legally robust.
  • Draft and negotiate legal documents and agreements.
