Overview

Whipps Cross is looking to recruit a Healthcare Support Worker (HCA) Band 3 who will work on Bracken Ward at Whipps Cross University Hospital. This post is open to experienced Healthcare Support Workers or those new to care. Individuals new to care will receive support to complete the Band 3 competencies and progress into a Band 3 role within six months upon successful completion of all required competencies.

Responsibilities

The postholder will work within Bracken Ward, a 17 bed ward specialising in medical gastroenterology and acute medical nursing, and will:

  • undertake a range of delegated clinical tasks, such as patient observations (e.g., monitoring vital signs)
  • assist with personal care and mobility
  • support patients’ nutritional and hydration needs
  • undertake a limited range of delegated duties (e.g. taking blood pressure, recording ECG, MRSA screening)
  • perform simple wound dressings
  • demonstrate strong teamwork and communication to ensure the comfort, wellbeing and safety of patients

The postholder will:

  • be an excellent communicator with experience of working in a team to ensure patient comfort, wellbeing and safety
  • be flexible to work within a challenging clinical environment and may undertake shift work including nights and weekends
  • be an integral part of a team actively meeting patient and service needs under direct supervision of the ward manager
  • continue to develop essential competencies through training and practice to ensure safety and quality
Progression and Salary

This post attracts individuals who are new to care. You will receive support to complete the Band 3 competencies and progress into a Band 3 role within 6 months upon successful completion of all required competencies; until then, you will be placed at a Band 2 salary.
