Job Title: Senior Financial Reporting Manager

In order to apply for this role you will have a minimum of three years’ recent experience operating at Deputy Chief Accountant level within a local government setting along with an Accountancy Qualification, (e.g. CIMA, ACCA, CIPFA, ICAEW).

The role: On behalf of a local council, we are seeking a Senior Financial Reporting Manager who is a highly experienced finance professional with a minimum of three years’ recent experience operating at Deputy Chief Accountant level within a local government setting. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrable track record in leading the end-to-end production of statutory accounts and managing all aspects of the Collection Fund. Proven expertise in navigating complex financial environments, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, and delivering high-quality financial reporting is essential.

Responsibilities
  • Leading the completion and external audit of the Council’s Statement of Accounts, ensuring full compliance with statutory requirements and professional standards.
  • Initiate and oversee preparations for the 2025/26 year-end closure process, including the implementation of robust in-year reconciliation procedures.
  • Drive the automation and digitisation of statutory financial returns through optimal use of the Council’s financial systems, with a focus on improving efficiency, accuracy, and audit readiness.
What the client is looking for
  • A minimum of three years’ recent experience operating at Deputy Chief Accountant level within a local government setting.
  • An Accountancy Qualification (CIMA, ACCA, CIPFA, ICAEW), or part-qualified with equivalent experience.
  • A track record in leading the end-to-end production of statutory accounts.
