Overview
Senior Estimator — Location: North West (commutable to Manchester area). Salary: Dependent on experience.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to take ownership of the pre-construction process from tender issue through to award. The successful candidate will ensure estimates are accurate, competitive, and compliant while working collaboratively with design, procurement, health & safety, and contracts teams.
Responsibilities
- Tender Stage: Review and analyse all tender documentation. Organise tender launch meetings to present strategies, thoughts, and timelines to senior management. Define tender return requirements; assign responsibilities across the business (programme, quality, social value, etc.). Liaise with design teams and clients during the tender period. Prepare Bills of Quantities using Conquest (or similar) software, or produce cost plans where applicable. Issue compliant supply chain enquiries and manage responses. Conduct site visits to assess constraints and logistics. Attend and contribute to mid-tender meetings, responding to queries from stakeholders. Collaborate with Contracts, Procurement, and Health & Safety teams on programme, technical design, logistics, and risk management. Contribute to the risk register and produce fully compliant tender submissions to deadlines.
- Handover & Project Support: Lead handover meetings with the delivery team, ensuring all project documentation is provided. Respond to queries from build and commercial teams during pre-construction, delivery, handover, and defects stages.
- Additional Responsibilities: Support business development by identifying tender opportunities and building relationships with clients and consultants. Maintain and develop the supply chain database. Attend networking and industry events as required. Undertake ongoing training to maintain a high level of technical competence.
Experience & Skills
- Proven experience as an Estimator at Senior level within the construction industry.
- Skilled in producing Bills of Quantities and cost plans (Conquest or similar software desirable).
- Strong understanding of the full tender process.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Knowledge of health & safety, risk management, and site logistics.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to meet strict deadlines.
- Commercial awareness and a business development mindset.
