Job description

Job Title: Senior Engineer – Electrical Engineering (Control & Instrumentation)

Location: Barrow-in-Furness – On-site

What you’ll be doing:

  • Develop design solutions to agreed time, cost and quality in accordance with project or business milestones.
  • Understand the contractual and performance requirements for various systems, and support the definition and associated acceptance criteria and events through design, build, integration, installation and commissioning activities.
  • Produce documentation required to support the design review process, including diagrams, technical specifications, supporting calculations, design evidence and justifications.
  • Ensure design proving evidence is comprehensive, captured within the requirements management tools and has been endorsed by the appropriate level of authority.
  • Ensure compliance against contractual requirements and that work is undertaken in accordance with company, safety, environmental, contractual and local business processes, standards, procedures and documentation.

Undertake design reviews and presentations to customers. Provide technical support to integrated performance and acceptance activities, including acceptance of equipment from suppliers through to system acceptance by the customer.

Your skills and experiences:

  • BEng (Hons) / MEng or equivalent.
  • Working towards professional registration.
  • Technical report writing skills.
  • Demonstrable experience of engineering lifecycle.
  • System calculations, modelling and analysis.
  • Understanding of at least one of the following areas: Instrumentation and control system theory including PID control, Electrical circuits design, EMC precautions and power supply characteristics, Safety Integrity Levels and BS EN 61508 or 61511, PLC programming to IEC 61131-3 standard, Fieldbus technology (Profibus/Profinet).

The Test Facility Capability Simulation Engineering team: The Senior Engineer – Electrical Engineering shall provide support to the Principal Engineers and/or external specialists during development, analysis, integration and verification of platform control and instrumentation systems.

The Senior Engineer shall be involved in leading analysis and production of technical reports and team deliverables. We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
