Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a SeniorDiagnostic Radiographer in West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust,working at one of our three sites: Watford General, Hemel Hempstead, or StAlbans. You will be an effective and proactive member of the Radiography team,delivering a high standard of radiographic services to Radiologists andpatients while supervising junior staff and students. The role includesparticipation in our 24/7 shift system and additional rotas across all threesites.

Main duties of the job

As aSenior Diagnostic Radiographer, you willbe responsible in the establishment and ongoing maintenance of qualityassurance programmes, as well as actively participate in and, where required,lead clinical audit projects. Engagement in the Radiology Clinical Governanceprogramme is essential. This role also involves training staff and students inthe safe and effective use of X-ray department equipment, supervising juniorteam members, and providing support and guidance as needed. You will be expectedto stay updated with professional developments in Radiology, attend relevantseminars and courses, and maintain accurate, up-to-date records of ContinuingProfessional Development (CPD) in line with HCPC requirements. A core aspect ofthe role is to prioritise patient welfare and comfort at all times.

We will also consider Band 5 Radiographerfor this role.

Job responsibilities
  • To perform imaging procedures across multiple modalities, including CT,MRI, Fluoroscopy, and General Imaging, ensuring accuracy and adherence todepartmental protocols.
  • To assist in the daily management of the X-ray Department, supporting LeadRadiographers to maintain operational efficiency and high service standards.
  • To act as a deputy for Superintendent or Lead Radiographers when required,taking responsibility for departmental oversight in their absence.
  • To conduct regular checks and monitoring of imaging equipment, promptlyreporting any faults or malfunctions to the relevant management.
  • To maintain accurate departmental records, including logging equipmentissues and managing computer systems in line with data protection regulations.
  • To ensure the X-ray Department is well-stocked, organized, and maintainedto a safe and hygienic standard, including checking supplies and keeping workareas tidy.
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • DCR(R) or BSc Radiography
  • HCPC registration
  • Experience across modalities, especially CT
  • NHS work experience and up-to-date CPD
  • PgD in cross-sectional imaging & familiarity with CRIS and PACS (desirable)
