Job summary

A leading NHS organization in Stockport is seeking a Senior Clinical Fellow in Respiratory Medicine. This role offers the opportunity to work directly with a diverse team in various respiratory clinics and inpatient settings. The successful candidate will manage acute cases and participate in an on-call rota for medical admissions. Candidates should have a medical qualification, GMC registration, and experience in clinical settings. This position includes flexible working arrangements and a competitive salary range of £65,048 to £73,992 pro rata per annum.

Job description
Senior Clinical Fellow - Respiratory Medicine

The Respiratory Medicine medical team currently consists of 6 respiratory Consultants, 3 middle grades, and 6 junior medical staff including trainee participants, a team of specialist nurses and respiratory physiologists.

Specialist services include Lung Cancer, NIV and Community COPD with further service developments in

progress and plans for further expansion of the consultant body.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with a range of respiratory inpatients including those requiring acute NIV, as well as the opportunity to gain valuable experience in respiratory outpatient clinics and procedures including bronchoscopy and pleural procedures. The applicant will also be part of the on call rota which will give excellent experience in dealing with acute medical admissions.

This post has regular on-call commitments. Office accommodation will be provided.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Responsibilities

All Clinical staff are required to work flexibly in undertaking their duties. This may require working during the

evenings and weekends to ensure effective delivery of service and its sustainability. The need for any

alterations will be highlighted by the Clinical Director and discussed with all relevant Consultants.

On call cover for acute medical admissions as part of the on call rota which includes diagnosis and treatment;

under consultant supervision of emergency and non-emergency patients admitted to the acute medical unit

(AMU).

Clinical staff currently provide general respiratory clinics and some speciality and cancer clinics. There is weekly Lung Cancer MDT, Radiology and Chest Clinic Breakfast meetings in addition to General Medical meetings. Lung Oncology, Thoracic and Cardiac Surgery clinics are provided by visiting Consultants from Wythenshawe and Christie Hospitals.

Representative timetable may include

Two/ three Respiratory clinics

One ward round with Consultant

One middle grade-led ward round

One In-reach and referrals session (supervised)

One Bronchoscopy or other procedure session a week

One ward round for problem-solving e.g. NIV

One session supporting the pleural service

One/ two Admin sessions
