A leading NHS trust in the UK seeks a qualified individual for a consultant role in orthopaedic surgery. Responsibilities include day-to-day medical and surgical care for orthopaedic patients, participation in a consultant-led team, and involvement in research programmes. Candidates must hold a valid GMC registration and possess relevant surgical experience. Strong communication skills and a commitment to academic enquiry are essential.
The successful applicant will be responsible for the day to day medical and surgical care of orthopaedic day case and inpatients and will have the opportunity to assist in theatres for both routine and specialist orthopaedic cases. The post holder will be involved in a busy foot and ankle service within the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at North Bristol NHS Trust. They will be expected to have some previous experience in foot and ankle surgery and to participate in the ongoing research and audit programmes of the department. The post is in a consultant led team and involves seeing a wide range of cases.
Orthopaedic services including elective procedures are provided at the Avon Orthopaedic Centre (AOC) at the Brunel Building, Southmead Hospital. The AOC provides the main elective orthopaedic service for Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire and also hosts inpatient surgery for University Hospitals Bristol and Weston Healthcare Trust. Five theatres run five days a week with 28 consultants operating here. The local catchment population is approximately 500,000 and specialist services are offered more widely across the region. The foot and ankle service covers all aspects of foot and ankle care and accepts tertiary referrals from a wide region.
Candidates must have, or be eligible for, GMC registration that allows them to work in posts that are not recognised for training. If in a training post this post is recognised for off programme training. Successful candidates will undergo training, appraisal and assessment. It is desirable that candidates have experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent).
