Job description

Do you want to join a global leader in Private Equity and Renewable Energy Infrastructure investments? If so Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) is the place for you. We are currently looking for a motivated Senior Associate to join our Government Affairs and Communications Team based in our UK headquarters in London.

Team

The Government Affairs and Communications team supports CIP’s activities in the UK and Irish markets by delivering accurate evidence‑based analysis of political policy and regulatory developments. Our purpose is to help create investor value by identifying risks and opportunities that inform insightful investment decisions and guide project development across a broad portfolio.

We work with agility coordinating information and priorities across multiple funds, platform companies and projects spanning a development pipeline of more than 25 GW and technologies such as offshore and onshore wind, solar, battery storage, interconnectors, distribution networks, energy from waste, energy hubs and data centres. The team ensures proactive efficient collaboration across these diverse interests.

Central to our approach is a customer‑centric and service‑oriented mindset. We assist internal stakeholders and project teams by building meaningful relationships within the organisation and with external partners including national governments, joint venture partners and colleagues from platform companies. As trusted advisors we help ensure CIP is well positioned in a complex and rapidly evolving energy landscape.

Role

As our new Senior Associate for Government Affairs and Communications (UK and Irish markets) you will be responsible for monitoring and interpreting political policy and regulatory developments across the UK and Ireland, providing clear analysis and guidance to support CIP’s projects and portfolios. You will advise internal stakeholders on relevant government affairs and communication topics and engage with both internal and external partners to advance CIP’s strategic priorities.

You will also contribute to communication marketing and branding initiatives at organisational and portfolio level and help coordinate Government Affairs and Communications efforts across all CIP funds, platform companies and projects to ensure alignment and consistency.

Further you will contribute to shaping strategic energy policies during a critical decade for climate and decarbonisation as well as have access to high‑impact networks and opportunities for career growth within the renewable energy ecosystem.

Responsibilities will consist of but are not limited to:
  • Strategy & Advocacy – Develop and implement policy and public affairs strategies supporting renewable energy growth and well‑understood project specific needs (covering solar, wind, battery storage and offshore technologies).
  • Insight – Provide political insight and scenario planning to senior leadership tracking legislative, regulatory and fiscal developments.
  • Stakeholder Engagement – Build and maintain relationships with MPs, MSPs, MSs, civil servants, regulators (e.g. CRU, Ofgem), local authorities, EU institutions, trade associations and think tanks. Represent CIP at briefings, panels, cross‑party groups and industry events.
  • Evidence‑Based Influence – Lead consultation responses, policy papers, position statements and manifestos using robust data and analysis. Monitor emerging policy opportunities and sector risks (e.g. consenting capacity, markets, grid issues).
  • Internal Coordination & Communication – Collaborate with internal policy, communications, technical and member relations teams to ensure cohesive messaging and effective internal reporting. Brief executives and colleagues on political developments and recommended actions.
You

We are seeking a candidate with proficient academic foundations ideally a postgraduate degree in public policy, political science, environmental studies or a related field and a solid understanding of the UK energy market and government processes. You bring relevant experience in political or policy‑focused environments along with an existing network across UK and Irish government or renewable‑energy advocacy circles.

Experience coordinating high‑profile political events or party‑conference activities is valuable as is familiarity with media relations, press engagement and public‑facing communication.

We look for the following in a candidate :
  • Public Affairs / Regulatory Skills – Minimum 3–5 years of experience in public affairs, government relations or policy/regulatory roles with experience in the energy or renewables sectors.
  • Knowledge of UK & Irish Energy Landscapes – Deep understanding of UK (Westminster, devolved administrations) and / or Irish energy systems and regulatory frameworks.
  • Communication & Political Judgment – Excellent written and verbal skills with experience producing briefings, policy consultations and engaging senior stakeholders. A keen awareness of political dynamics and the ability to translate complex legislative topics into easily comprehensible communication.
  • Stakeholder & Project Management – Effective relationship‑management skills; experienced at multi‑party collaborations and managing cross‑functional campaigns. Ability to prioritise and deliver under time pressure on multiple initiatives.
  • Team Collaboration – Comfortable working autonomously and in teams; supervisory experience is a plus (e.g. mentoring junior staff or consultants).
  • Passion for Renewable Energy – Commitment to making changes that facilitate the energy transition and realise net‑zero outcomes.
  • Politically savvy & strategically forward‑thinking professional – Want to shape the future of renewable energy across the UK and Ireland.
